Kids friendly
Kiara lodge is such a beautiful place , the facilities are of such great quality, the place is so serene and clean, we just want to go back already. The restaurant food is yum yum, the well thought out interior design is so eye catching, the lighting is so unique and interesting. The restaurant team Theo and Elias provided such great service. We thoroughly enjoyed gorge swing (although I was soooo scared) with David and Patrick, these guys ROCK, they are helpful, encouraging and warm n take insta worthy pics. Rock climbing was a nice challenge and the team Sergeant n Lea kept cheering us on, it was sooo good. The onsite store Traders is full of necessities and Esther is so warm n friendly. The fireplace makes the rooms all the more cozy - the putt putt golf balls are so quirky…. I could go on and on talking about how great this place is…. The kids just couldn’t have enough of the games room, putt putt, tennis, big chess this place has activities for days for the entire family…… I had a minor incident the day before leaving and the team was so quick to attend Donald from the first aid team was so calm n collected when we were all scared and Jenna from management kept checking in. On the day of checking out the team support well BEYOND my expectations especially Moses, Gem Gem, Donald, Karen n Brandon kept coming to check on me, it took all the stress out of this incident. They continued to check up on me until I got home. Their service was just outstanding. I could go on and on about how great this place is you just have to see for yourself. The entire team provides such excellent service would be back in a HEARTBEAT …….

There were plenty of activities to keep the kids occupied. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hiking in the resort was awesome. Padel court facility available.
From day one, At Reception the service was on another level. The environment was so refreshing, family friendly , even the rooms so clean. The people so Friendly and calm. Not just only those who work there, but also visitors,, security.. Best experience, I'll go back anytime.

The lodge has great facilities for kids , the family unit was clean, however there was visible mold on the bathroom ceiling, ideally an extractor fan should be installed. The service at the restaurant wasn't great at all even though it was only partially full, hence on day 2 we were left unattended for 10+ minutes and left prior to sit down.

Location, facilities and vast amounts of space at the property
Jolie structure d'ensembles de groupes de plusieurs chalets accolés dispersés sur des pentes. Une terrasse. aménage. Belle vue. PEU APPRéCIé ! : Notre chalet d'1 chambre avait une tres grande salle de bain pour une chambre petite sans porte et une cuisine/salon peu grande sans table pour manger (sinon terrasse). Du fait de la configuration des groupes de chalets et de l'aménagement intérieur, le barbecue du voisin a largement parfumé notre chambre (et avons entendu toute leur soirée, mais cela dépend des voisins ...) Piscine au final pas très agréable (pourtant période hors scolaire et hors haute saison) Il s'agit plutôt d'un ensemble orienté pour les familles. Reste quand même cher pour ce que c'est (notamment comparé à d'autres structures des environs où nous avons séjourné.)

The entire place is amazing. The scenery, the silence, the fireplace is warm, the restaurant is an amazing generation, the massages were amazing, the games are fun, the indoor pool could spend forever in there.

Our family recently had the pleasure of staying at this resort, and it was truly a wonderful experience. The facilities are excellent, everything is well-maintained and clearly managed with care and attention to detail. The on-site spa was a lovely surprise, offering very reasonable rates and a relaxing experience. The restaurant also stands out, providing great value for money with enjoyable meals. The accommodation units are exceptionally well looked after, clean, neat, and very comfortable. The beds deserve a special mention, as they made for an incredibly restful night’s sleep. One of the highlights for us was the swimming pool area. It is thoughtfully designed, with a heated, covered pool and two jacuzzi baths, making it enjoyable regardless of the weather. The overall atmosphere at the resort is absolutely wonderful. The mountain views are breathtaking, especially from units situated higher up, definitely worth it if you can get one of those! The staff were friendly, helpful, and contributed to making our stay even more pleasant. Although there was some disturbance at times due to building and renovation work, we appreciate that the resort is being kept modern and up to date, which ultimately adds to its long-term value. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and would gladly return. Highly recommended for families looking for comfort, relaxation, and beautiful surroundings.

Excellent, Beautiful, unexpected Gem! If you have young kids and enjoy the outdoors, this place is perfect. It started from driving in from the Harrismith side in the late afternoon, the colours reflected off the mountain left me speechless. Scenic parking spots along the way to enjoy the view. Animals were seen along the roadside from cows and horses to antelope, zebra and birds. Except for Harrismith, the quality of the roads was mostly good, well repaired potholes and a few uneven surfaces. Beware of the blinding sun while driving. Kiara's location is central to exploring the area. The accommodation was clean, spacious and well apportioned. While the units were a bit too close for my comfort, we did enjoy some privacy. Playground for the kids with bunnies hopping around. Planned entertainment activities daily for children, adults and families. Lots of activities in and around Kiara, most incredible is the affordable costs of paid for activities compared to other holidays and tourist areas. Free Hiking routes that are easy for young and old, hot water pool with jacuzzi, small practical gym, pedal boats. Paid for small gorge swing, horseriding from between R100 (Clarens Town) and R250 (Golden Gate Park) /hour, catch and release fishing. Explore the mountains, waterfalls, dams. Weekends are very busy in the area with day trippers and weekenders, I found it to be much more pleasant midweek if you prefer quiet and peace. Others mentioned No lifeguards, but there was always one on duty while we were there. The heated pool is deep, about 1,7m off the second step and does not have any indicators of depth. It seemed that most complaints that I saw on the reviews were addressed by Management. Quite commendable. Rooms: Spacious, Well proportioned with spacious bathrooms. shower with rails and seat for handicap and elderly. Nearby activities: Hiking, horse riding, trout fishing, explore Clarens town. Safety: Seemed quite safe, resort had many security guards, fenced in design, cameras and helpful staff. Walkability: Great area for walking and hiking. Food & drinks: On-site shop and restaurant with bar.

Kiara lodge is a lovely resort. Set in the valley of the Maluti mountains mean you get breathtaking views. It is a place where there are activities for all ages. They even have tennis courts. The self catering units are very comfortable and are set with all your home comforts. Cleaners come daily to freshen up and replace toiletries. Staff are. reserved but helpful. It is so peaceful out in the fresh mountain air. Rooms: The unit is self catering. It has a gas hob and electric oven. The furniture is very comfortable. The bedrooms are comfortable with lovely cotton bedding. There are built in cupboards with hangers. There are fans in all the rooms. Bathrooms are well laid out and comes with hand wash and body wash. They change towels every second day. They have all crockery and cutlery required. Sufficient pots and pans for cooking. There is a gas heater and an indoor braai and fireplace. Nearby activities: There are quite a few activities. There is a kids play area with climbing frames and trampoline. There is a comfortable games room with arcade style games, Lego. Snooker, foozeball and table tennis. Then there is an adult lounge area with darts. Then there are trails to hike, an indoor pool and peddling boats on site. Then leap adventure across the road has quad bikes, a gorge swing and archery. 15 minutes drive is the Golden Gate Highlands Nature reserve with scenic views. Safety: The resort is absolutely safe and has security and access control. They do however advise guests to lock their units when they leave. Walkability: The resort is perfect for daily walks. The meandering pathways make this an ideal activity. There is also a gym on site if you prefer a treadmill. Food & drinks: There is a convenience store on site to purchase food items. They also have a restaurant called Maluti Melt that has a full service menu as well as a bar. They also have a self-braai option for groups who would like to do it themselves. Noteworthy details: There is a lovely coffee shop and gift shop five minutes drive called Sugar & Cinnamon. About 30 minutes into the Golden Gate reservation is the Basuthu Cultural Village which is an interesting site to see. There are bunny rabbits hopping throughout the resort which is super cute. There is an awesome putt-putt course and giant chess. There is two jacuzzi’s at the indoor pool complex. The temperature of the water a just off the cold. Bring your own swimming towels.
The location, range of activities and facilities are superb, especially with the topography and scenery. However they charge for every single thing, access card for activities plus you have to buy items on top of that for the facilities, and they dont bring fresh towels daily.

This is a lovely resort. The entertainment activities are well organised for young to old. The activities include yoga, bingo, tennis challenges, charades, kids pizza classes, gorge swings, hiking trails, paint classes, putt putt and much more. The bungolows get cleaned everyday and the staff is friendly. The amenities is very clean and well maintained. We will definitely be back.

We stayed here as a family of 3 over the new years week. Was a beautiful family resort. Clean rooms which are serviced daily and grounds are beautifully maintained. Tranquil surroundings and many activities to keep little 1s and adults entertained. Overall a lovely stay. My only issue were the lounge furniture which either need changing or to be re upholstered, it feels old and grubby.
The chalets
I liked the views, the facilities and how friendly the staff is. My kids enjoyed it as there was a lot to do on site.
Nearby activities: There is rock climbing, hiking (different hiking trails with different levels of difficulty ) quad biking, archery, paintball shooting (when i left they were still preparing the paintball area to accommodate people shooting each other as i only shot designated targets) and inside activities like tennis, mini golf, etc. Safety: There safety is nice as some parts are enclosed by fences gates and u can only move around with a code they have given you. Walkability: You can walk all around and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Food & drinks: Personally we never bought any food as they were quite pricey and we cooked for ourselves , but I am sure they must be good. Noteworthy details: Bring outdoor clothes and accessories like hiking shoes and water bottles. If you get lost or you're looking for a place where you have no idea it is , just ask anyone that passes by and they'll kindly help you.

Beautiful place hidden in lush bushes and landscapes. The bunnies 🐰 were the cutest 😍. The self catering unita were incredibly clean and no issues with inserts in the units. The Entertainment sites were great especially the game area and putt putt. Swimming area was good but could have a second location so that we not too packed.
The lodge is very child oriented, lots to do for the little ones, my kids had a great time! I personally loved the views, the all-in-one setup as well as the close proximity to both Clarens town and the National Park. I also loved that I was able to hike within the premises and the pedal boats were a great treat!

The apartment was spacious enough for my family and it had everything, it felt like home away from home. There’s enough entertainment for little ones so you and the kids will never be bored. The spa is just the cherry on top. I’ll be coming back soon

This is the best place to go whenever I need a breakaway, whether it is to rest or to go wild on the many other activities. Located in the most beautiful and scenic area of the Eastern Free State, it is easily reachable and lends the best atmosphere for chilling. Neatly kept lawns and pathways allow you to walk around with joy. The units are amazing and beautifully kept, as I've stayed on different ones over the years. What a joyful to stay here.

You actually don’t have to leave the Lodge at all - can spend holiday right here! Even a spa for those that need a time out😬 Rooms: Great. Serviced and all that you need. Clean and relative new. Nearby activities: Local hikes and drives through SanParka Golden Gate Reserve. Clarens for more quirky shopping and stocking up on supplies . Safety: Feel very safe here, even happy to have to kids walk around the lodge with friends alone. Walkability: Some small local walks and then others further out for the more advanced. Caters for all fitness levels for sure. Noteworthy details: It’s like God was showing off when he made this areas of the world. Must have painted each stone by hand .

Went as a family and thoroughly enjoyed it! Chalet and facilities were clean and well maintained. The resort itself is beautiful. Pools are indoor, heated and enough space for all guests - perfect. Loads of activities for kids. Easy hiking trails. Chalets are fully equipped with a big balcony, braai area and perfect for relaxation. The location is perfect and surrounding nature is breathtaking. Clarens and Golden Gate National Park is is a few minutes away in opposite directions. Cons - we should have stayed longer :)
Heated pool so you can swim all year round. Excellent facilities for kiddies, indoors and outdoors. Clean and comfortable accommodation. Worth the drive, with scenic surroundings.

Stunning location and the Resort is so well kept and well managed.
Our stay at Kiara was very pleasant. Unit was very clean and tidy. We receive an access pass that allows for use of many of the resorts facilities at no extra cost. Unit was cleaned daily by staff members. Walking trails was well marked, and even after heavy rain we were able to do all walking trails. Pedalboating was fun, but the boat we used could do with some maintenance as the steering rudder was a little loose... Still worked well enough to enjoy an 1 hour pedal. Will definitely go again...

We booked a accommodation here in 17-19 October 2025 and I must say it is one of the best resorts we have ever been too in South Africa.The accommodation was clean and tidy and amazing.It was the weekend of the wine festival in Clarens so the resort was full.I reccomend booking in advance as the resort is very popular.The views of the sandstone mountains of Clarens and the national park look magical at sunset and the mountains are all around the resort.The grass was so green as you will see in pictures.There is a indoor pool and every unit has a fire place for those cold days and nights.There is also a shop where you can get anything for self catering as the resort is self catering,there is also the Maluti restaurant with great food.There is also bushman art to see on the resort and beautiful hikes.All together it was a great weekend away and only 3hours 40min drive from Gauteng it's a great weekend getaway.I would highly recommend Kiara lodge!

Kiara Lodge is a beautiful and peaceful getaway, perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. The surroundings are serene, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The lodge is clean and well-maintained, making it a lovely place to unwind. When we arrived, the TV wasn’t working, but it was fixed by the second night and we only stayed for 2 nights in total. It would have been nice to have a small gesture to make up for the inconvenience, especially as we had an older guest with us who couldn’t do much else. Most activities come at an additional cost, but overall, it’s a wonderful and refreshing escape from the city.
Thecweek we spent here was good, nice heated pool and playroom for the kiddies.
We loved the pool, the play room, the tennis court, the massage was also good for me and the food in the restaurant was delicious. What stood out for me was the restaurant setting braai fire for us and giving us free pap and gravy. We had a great time and the place was breath taking.
Everything in this place is exceptional. The kids loved it.

My family and I stayed at Kiara resort for four days and it was amazing. I loved all the activités for children . The indoor pool was amazing. Everything was clean and good customer service. Easily accessible from Johannesburg and nestled in the Maluti mountains Kiara is an absolute gem. The unit was well appointed. Crisp white linen and comfortable bed. The facilities are well maintained and the hikes marked. The staff from reception to departure were so friendly and helpful. I would give the wine tasting a skip.

Great place to relax & get away from the city life. It's about 1 hour drive from Bergview & about 15m drive from town. Nice facilities and activities for everyone regardless of age. Splash pools for toddlers, slides for kids. This is in a heated indoor pool. Games room for kids & adults which includes table soccer, pool table, table tennis, mini jungle gym (for toddlers), arcade games. Outdoor play area includes swings, trampolines and much more. The hiking trails are moderate, if you are a beginner this could be a minor problem at times. There were lots of other activities available: gorge swing, archery, pedal, tennis, quad biking & put put (mini golf). Also a day spa on site. The restaurant have great food, especially the breakfast waffle (with scrambled eggs, bacon and mushrooms). Service at the restaurant needs a little work. We had to request things that should have been brought with the meal. One day syrup was given with the meal and another day ni syrup (The waffle supposed to come standard with the meal). Overall a nice relaxing weekend. Will definitely go back Rooms: We stayed in a private room which was suitable for myself and I. The room had a queen sized bed, TV, small kitchen (including fridge/freezer combo, Gas stove, microwave, kettle & sink), fire place. Nearby activities: Lots of activities on site. Quad biking, fishing, put put (mini golf), archery, indoor heated pool, games room (toddler jungle gym), pool table, soccer table, table soccer, arcade games. Outdoor play ground

My child always enjoys the pool facilities and Kiara suited all my family's needs.
Lovely place! Everything you need right there. Restaurant, shop, indoor heated pool, gym and spa. And cute bunnies running around the resort. Rooms: Lovely room with a huge en-suite bathroom and a fireplace. Nearby activities: An onsite gym offers a great variety - first experience with a self powered treadmill. We had a massage at the spa and it was one of the best I've had. Safety: Very safe. Walkability: You park and walk everywhere. Food & drinks: Delicious and unusual lamb curry pizza - definitely worth a try.

Great place to visit if you have, kids plenty for them to do. For adults there is the SPA and the small town of Clarence is down the road, which will fulfill any shopping needs.
We were extremely happy with our stay and will return. We have a 1 year old, so the kids activities were amazing and fun.
A very beautiful setting. A place where peace and beauty reside hand in hand. We felt recharged and refreshed after our stay.
